As part of the redevelopment of the Metzeschmelz site, AGORA is continuing the preparatory work for the future neighborhood, in coordination with the municipalities of Esch-sur-Alzette and Schifflange.

After the initial interventions, a new phase of the construction site concerns the demolition of the scrap hall and the electric furnace located on the former industrial brownfield site.

Construction schedule

  • Scrap hall: The demolition work of the scrap hall has been underway since early November 2025.
  • Electric furnace: The demolition of the electric furnace is scheduled from early February 2026 until May 2026.

These interventions constitute an important step to secure the site and enable the development of the future neighborhood.

Company and intervention methods

Les travaux sont réalisés par l’entreprise Martens Democom, spécialisée dans la démolition d’ouvrages industriels.

The following methods are implemented:

  • Mechanical demolitions;
  • Controlled pull-down demolitions, after preliminary pre-cutting of the concerned structures.

These techniques allow for optimal control of site safety and the impact on the surrounding environment.

Temporary disturbances and mitigation measures

The work takes place during the day and may generate:

  • noise related to construction machinery and demolition operations;
  • dust emissions;
  • an additional truck traffic for material removal.

To limit these nuisances, the following measures are planned:

  • Methodical cleaning of areas before demolition;
  • Intensive watering to reduce dust;
  • Continuous dust monitoring on site;
  • Organisation du trafic des camions via les accès internes au site vers la zone à mitraille, afin de limiter l’impact sur la voirie publique ;
  • Temporary suspension of rail traffic to Cimalux during the dismantling of the cantilevered part of the building near the tracks.

Site safety and monitoring

Safety and environmental protection are at the heart of the site organization:

  • The work is supervised by our safety and health coordinator: D3 Coordination;
  • Environmental control (including dust monitoring) is carried out by the accredited organization: Luxcontrol SA.

A specific coordination is established with the railway operator Cimalux, particularly for the suspension of traffic during sensitive demolition phases.
