AGORA announces a new milestone in the development of Belval: the construction of a steel pedestrian and bicycle bridge connecting Belvie, Belval’s latest major neighborhood, to the town of Belvaux. This major infrastructure project, scheduled for completion by the end of October 2026, will enhance the site’s connectivity and facilitate travel between the developing neighborhood and the existing urban fabric.
An iconic project promoting sustainable transportation
Measuring 34 meters long, with a clear width of 4 meters and weighing 100 metric tons, this pedestrian and bicycle bridge will be an iconic structure at the Belval site. Designed to accommodate pedestrians and cyclists, it embodies AGORA’s commitment to creating a connected, accessible community focused on sustainable modes of transportation.
This infrastructure is part of the effort to transform former industrial sites into vibrant, sustainable, and desirable neighborhoods—an initiative AGORA has championed since its founding in 2000. It complements the existing network of sustainable transportation options on the site, located right next to Um Belval Park, Bel-Val High School, and the Kannercampus, while providing direct access to downtown Belvaux.
Belvie: The Final Piece of the Belval Puzzle
Officially launched at MIPIM 2026, Belvie is Belval’s latest major neighborhood. Designed as a self-contained residential neighborhood with a focus on families, it combines controlled density, high quality of life, a peaceful setting, and a variety of housing options.
As Bruno Théret, Vice President of AGORA’s Management Board, pointed out : “With Belvie, we’re not just launching a new development. We are launching Belval’s final major residential development—a neighborhood designed to meet both market expectations and the deep-seated aspirations of its future residents.”
Industrial Heritage and Urban Modernity
The choice of steel is no accident: it evokes Belval’s steelmaking heritage while symbolizing the transition to a modern, connected, and sustainable neighborhood. This footbridge echoes the site’s industrial history while fitting into a contemporary approach to urban planning.
Marie-Josée Vidal, Chair of AGORA’s Management Board, notes that “a neighborhood’s appeal is also measured by its ability to accommodate different life paths. “With Belvie, we want to demonstrate that a desirable neighborhood can also be a diverse one—more open and more attuned to the country’s real needs.”
Timeline and Next Steps
The footbridge is scheduled to be installed on the last weekend of October 2026. This phase is part of a broader development plan for the site, which will also include continued work at Metzeschmelz, the second major pillar of AGORA’s initiative.
With this new infrastructure, AGORA reaffirms its mission: to transform brownfield sites into sustainable, connected neighborhoods that are deeply rooted in their communities, by combining innovation, urban quality, and the public interest.
